“Promoting Animal Wellness in Shelters”
PAWS-BHM is dedicated to our mission of “Promoting Animal Wellness in Shelters” for shelter pets in the Greater Birmingham area.
We do this through our 3 E’s – Engagement, Enrichment, & Education –
(although our PAWS mascot, Ms Berkley, insists the 3 E’s are Energetic, Ecstatic, and Exuberant!)

ENGAGEMENT– We promote community engagement on behalf of local shelters by hosting donation drives, as well as routinely communicating shelter needs to the public. Our PAWS 2 Recycle Donation Drive is an ongoing initiative to remind everyone that many items typically discarded (such as old newspapers and towels) are desperately needed by shelters for animal care. We also offer free pick up and delivery services for large donations to a donor’s shelter of choice.
ENRICHMENT- We are committed to enriching the lives of shelter pets as they await adoption. We do this by volunteering on-site at local shelters to spend time with the animals, as well as promoting opportunities to the public. We also create enrichment toys for the animals through our “Crafting for Critters” program and workshops.
EDUCATION- Our commitment to educate young animal ambassadors began in 2019 when our PAWS-BHM founder, Brandon, was only 10 years old and began volunteering at local animal shelters… Since then, Brandon has been committed to spreading the word to other kids about how they can be involved in the mission of animal shelters too! We offer “Crafting for Critters” workshops for kids ages 8+ as one of our education outreach programs. We also promote and share shelter opportunities on our “Kid’s Korner” page on behalf of local animal shelters to help get the word out about ways that kids can help, regardless of age!
