Did you know there are ways to be involved with helping shelter animals at any age?

Click below to learn more about fun summer programs such as “Reading to Cats” at Shelby Humane and “Critter Camp” at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society!*

There are also on-going volunteer opportunities for kids at both shelters, such as spending time with animals at Shelby Humane*, joining the Kid’s Club at GBHS*, or even helping from home by becoming a Paper Pal!

Kids can also join our PAWS-BHM “Crafting for Critters” initiative to help us make enrichment toys for the animals as they await adoption!

PAWS – BHM EVENTS / Summer 2025:

“Crafting for Critters” at the Mt Laurel Public Library – Thursday, June 19th @ 2:00 pm

We had such a great time “Crafting for Critters” with kids at the Mt Laurel Public Library recently! 15 kids attended and learned to upcycle old t-shirts, transforming them into cool braided rope toys for shelter pets as they await adoption!

If you’re one of the kids who braided rope toys at this workshop and would like to see which adoptable animal received your toy, please click HERE!

We want to thank our donors who donated t-shirts for this event through our recent “PAWS 2 Recycle” donation drives, as well as the Mt Laurel Public Library for hosting our event through their Summer Reading Program!
